Osgoode-NYU Dual LL.B./LL.M. Program
NYU School of Law welcomes applications for the Osgoode-NYU Dual LL.B./LL.M. Program from current LL.B. students at Osgoode Hall Law School, York University. Students in this program earn their LL.B. degree from Osgoode and their LL.M. from NYU School of Law in a total of three-and-a-half years (seven academic semesters) of full-time study.
Current LL.B. students at Osgoode Hall may apply during their second year of LL.B. study for admission to NYU School of Law for the spring semester following the completion of five academic semesters at Osgoode. In exceptional circumstances, students may apply to enter the NYU LL.M. program the fall semester following the completion of four academic semesters at Osgoode. Admission to Osgoode is not a guarantee of admission to NYU.
Applicants to the LL.M. portion may select from the NYU programs offered in New York City: General Studies, Corporation Law, International Legal Studies, International Taxation, Taxation, or Trade Regulation. If offered admission, these students will be considered LL.M. students during their residency at NYU and are subject to the rules and regulations of NYU School of Law applicable to all LL.M. students. Additionally, students are entitled to the student services on offer at NYU, such as those provided by the Office of Graduate Affairs, the Office of Student Affairs, the Department of Residence Services, the Office of Career Services and the Public Interest Law Center.
The LL.M. degree requires the completion of 24 credits or coursework at NYU, and the LL.B. degree must be awarded by Osgoode before NYU will award the LL.M. degree, even if the LL.M. degree is otherwise earned. Coursework completed at Osgoode may satisfy pre- and co-requisites, or be used for purposes of a waiver of course requirements, for the LL.M. at NYU. However, at no time will NYU apply Osgoode course credits toward the total of 24 credits required to complete the NYU LL.M. degree. The Dual LL.B./LL.M. Program may not be combined with any other joint- or dual-degree program and may not be completed in any manner other than full-time study for seven consecutive academic semesters.
Students are responsible for the payment of tuition and fees charged by Osgoode for the LL.B. program and the tuition and fees charged by NYU School of Law for the LL.M. program. Admitted students to the Dual LL.B./LL.M. Program are eligible for consideration for NYU's merit-based scholarships for the LL.M. portion of the program.
How to Apply
Applicants to the LL.M. portion of the Osgoode-NYU Dual LL.B./LL.M. Program must use the NYU School of Law Graduate Online Application (application fee: $75), and must follow the directions in the Admissions Information and Application Instructions.
Applicants to the dual-degree program should proceed as LL.M. applicants on the online application; there is no separate place to indicate application to the dual-degree program. Please note that applicants to the dual-degree program may apply to begin full-time LL.M. study in either the spring semester (January) or the fall semester (late August), and should be sure to select the appropriate semester of entry on the online application. If admitted for spring semester entry, students may be required to complete independent work in lieu of the Introduction to U.S. Law course required of all foreign students entering in the fall semester.
All materials for application to the LL.M. programs in New York City, including the online application and application fee, must be submitted by December 1, 2007. Please note that applicants to the dual-degree program should not use the LSAC Credential Assembly Service, rather they should send their official law school transcript directly to the Office of Graduate Admissions.
Review of Applications
The Committee on Graduate Admissions will apply the same standard of admission for applicants to the LL.M. portion of the dual-degree program as those applied by the Committee for applicants to the LL.M. degree (without the dual-degree).
Admission to all LL.M. specializations is equally competitive.
Applications are not reviewed until all required materials and the application fee have been received.
Decisions regarding the full-time LL.M. program in New York City will be communicated in early to mid-March to applicants with foreign education credentials who supply all materials necessary to complete their files by the December 1 deadline, without preference as to date of application. Those foreign applicants who do not supply materials to complete their application by the December 1 deadline will receive decisions as they are made following completion of their file. All decisions for foreign applicants to the LL.M. program in New York City will be communicated by late June.
No guarantees can be made concerning applications received after the deadline; such applications may be returned unprocessed.
Accepting an Offer of Admission
Students admitted to the full-time LL.M. program must submit a non-refundable tuition deposit to reserve their seat in the class. The deposit deadline for those admitted to study in New York City will be provided with the letter of admission.
