J.S.D. Forum
The J.S.D. Forum, a central institution of the J.S.D. program, offers an opportunity for J.S.D students and candidates to present their work to their peers in a workshop format. Pursuit of the J.S.D. is an intensely individual enterprise, and the Forum enables the participants to reflect critically on their own research and writing, and to form a dynamic academic community that structures a serious forum for intellectual exchange. The duty to participate in the Forum is just as strong as the expectation of auditing Law School classes, as it provides further training for the profession. It is hoped that the Forum itself creates an ethos for members of the J.S.D. community to work in smaller groups to give feedback and support to one another as they draft their dissertations. The J.S.D. Forum meets every other week each semester and is led by the J.S.D. Faculty Director. In many cases, J.S.D. students and candidates invite their advisors or other faculty members to participate in their presentation. The Forum also benefits from the participation of other NYU fellows and visiting scholars.
